i hadn't planned to do anything new years eve other than watch fireworks on the roof, but a friendly guy brought over a cocktail and jello shots, then more neighbors arrived and we all enjoyed a spontaneous celebration together.
i felt grateful to have a nice new years eve in my comfiest clothes with zero effort whatsoever, without even leaving my building, yet surrounded by warm smiling faces, sipping free drinks (in addition to my mug of hot cinnamon tea.) kids yelled with pure joy each time colorful lights filled the sky, which made it feel like i was part of a big family. and the best part, after the impromptu party, i was free to leave early and sleep -- and no drunk guests to clean up after!
we also hiked the tallest mountain peak this week, and am still sore, but it was worth it. the volunteer park ranger was super nice. we chatted it up before and after the hike. there were waterfalls everywhere, mushrooms and moss, chipmunks, cool rock formations, and a spectacular view of the misty forest from the top of the mountain.
And now it's 2024, and we've been through hell and back, and healed some, and we're still alive!
i didn't think of a resolution yet. i will ponder this in the days to come...
i hope you are staying warm and savoring whatever life brings. Sending you all the new years love and a consensual respectful platonic virtual kiss.
