i dreamed i was watching out a window at a group of young adults aggressively pushing a building across the street, but they didn't realize every building was connected underground by cables and pipes which were causing everything to fall around them. as they kept pushing the other building, the building i was in began to fall sideways, and bits of the road collapsed revealing pipes and wires beneath it.
i saw what was happening but they were unaware. i tried to yell for them to stop but they couldn't hear me.
i exited the building to survey the destruction. at first i was upset but my building didn't look as bad from outside as it felt on the inside. i went back in and gathered my belongings.
metaphors galore.
lately i've been thinking about mycelium in the forest connecting all the trees like a giant nervous system. in my dream the buildings were like the trees, and the cables and pipes underground like mycelium. a vast interconnected network.
there is a quote i liked as a teen: "when we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the universe."
and this variation: "when we try to pick out anything by itself we find that it is bound fast by a thousand invisible cords that cannot be broken, to everything in the universe."
i like the second one about cords being unbreakable.
