A hummingbird recently visited my rooftop. A rare sighting! Never before, in fact.
This year's altar has been my best yet. The marigold garlands form a towering arch (double my height!), lit with orange lights. The whole thing rests on a generations-old heirloom dresser made by my ancestors hands, topped with mauve-purple burnout velvet I performed in years back. Symmetrically arranged around a centerpiece of traditional offerings, are photos of everyone I've loved and lost. Between an avocado and a candle, I added a handwritten letter from my great great grandmother :
"Hoping that you are in better spirits, everything will come out alright, it always does, don't aim too high and don't worry too much. With lots of love to you both, Mother. The sun will shine again someday."
I had a really great talk with an indigenous elder. And then found out my teacher has precognitive dreams too! That was an exciting discovery for both of us. I never met anyone else like me before, and neither did she. Oh and I won a pumpkin art contest.
