"Live each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influences of each."
-Henry David Thoreau
I'm back from Toronto. I adore Canada.
I'm remaining openly steadfast about my love, and beginning to see small rewards. It helps that his mom told him to 'be a man and stop yelling at me.' That's akin to a blessing on gay marriage by the pope!
Rather than obsessing about what's wrong with our marriage, we're now attempting to enable each other to be happier, healthier individuals. For us that means reducing stress with bubble baths, long walks under green trees, deep breaths, vitamins, good food, spontaneous misbehaving, getting to know our neighbors, and saying "I love you" even when we're upset.
It's work, but then it becomes fun and I forget it's a chore, and that's a good sign. I can't guarantee he'll always follow through, but I can accept this dare, trust the journey, and like Thoreau, resign myself to whatever comes.
