I dreamed I spotted a boa constrictor coiled in the corner of a room. I grabbed the shoulder of my most trusted friend, K, and said calmly and urgently as possible "LOOK. THERE'S A BOA."
The boa noticed us at the same time we noticed it. "Move back very slowly and don't say a word or make any sudden movements," she said.
The boa's eyes were fixated only on me.
I creeped backward very slowly into the opposite corner of the room, but the boa was the same length as the room and its long neck followed me, hovering at eye level. Finally I was crouched in the corner as far as I could get away from it, face to face with the snake. I had only two potential outcomes. Either it would lose interest, or lunge at me and attack. I sat crouched, not moving, not breathing, awaiting the snake's decision, yet ready for whatever was to come.
