This morning I broke down and cried. I can no longer ignore ugly truths.
I see crowds of people, maskless, obvious superspreader events, right in the middle of the highest delta spike. This is how many people don't care who they kill. This is how many people care more about a dumb show than they care about our community's lives. More than they care about all the disabilities people will suffer as a result of it. Rather than err on the side of caution when it comes to saving lives, their callous attitude seems to be 'what's a few more deaths!' How many beers do they have to drink at each show to forget the destruction they're causing? Cheers!
The promoters were more worried about upsetting anti maskers, than about saving lives and health of thousands, and the thousands those thousands will come into contact with after the show. "Consider wearing a mask," the sign read. They don't need to enforce anything, but might it have saved a few lives to have simply said "wear a mask."? To have said it like they mean it? Even if it is optional?
I feel like that scene in... Modern Times was it? When Charlie Chaplin gets stuck in the gears of the capitalist factory. The machine is too big. We can't stop it. We're trapped in motion and we can't get out. It's not as funny though, when people are actually dying. How much denial does it take not to see that? How many pharmaceuticals does it take to numb the subsequent depression and anxiety humans suffer as a result of a society that values money over human lives?
They all must have excellent insurance...
And excellent drugs.
