The sun is shining and coffee awaits.
I dreamed my family re-bought the house I grew up in and I was so happy. I browsed the garage looking for items to carry up to my room, and noticed with great nostalgia that it smelled just as it did when I was a kid. I had tears of joy telling my mom that it still smelled the same. My birds were still in their cage, alive and well. I said hello to them and ran my finger along the cage. The garage had some of my old toys, used pink candles that looked like leftover wedding favors, and other old things organized on shelves.
I went up to my room and opened the window I used to climb out of to lay on the roof and talk for hours on the phone with my friends. The air smelled the same. I breathed it in gratefully. My dad walked in and I enthusiastically told him my ideas for painting my old room. I'd paint the white shelves black. The walls would be a dark pinkish purple, or maybe I'll paint the walls dark like the night sky! I stood near the other window and looked out. There were houses there now instead of my old oak tree, frog pond, and rolling hills, but I could still see the hills I used to play on peeking out behind the row of newer houses. Good enough, I thought to myself.
Suddenly there were peculiar bright green lights and an explosion across the street from the old barn that sent microscopic shards through my window and into my neck and left burn marks. I seemed to be okay, but now the trees and shrubs were on fire. "Turn on the sprinklers!" I said to my dad, and he did. The fire died down and everything was okay. We all walked to my neighbor's house and talked about the lights and fire. They welcomed us in and we sat on the couch and laughed about it. My mom had shelves of stamps and crafting materials there, which I asked if I could have, but she wasn't ready to give up her stamp collection. We went for a drive. Everyone was so happy and laughing. No one was wearing a mask.
When we were back home, my parents laid next to each other on my twin bed being affectionate and I jumped in between them with a burrito in my hand. "Destiny burrito!" I said. Then I woke up.
